lpsc and other fun

lpsc was great. so much fun seeing my name on posters and on powerpoint slides and hearing speakers say, "as dalton et al. showed in 2005..." people building off of my work is so cool. still not used to it yet. and talking with big names in experimental petrology and having them interested in my thesis, and then having my thesis change directions a bit to something even better that builds off of my previous work on the martian mantle from my lpi internship in 2004, and having people be even more excited about the new thesis, was all super. very nice seeing all the nasa/lpi/former asu folks, as well as christi, jamie, and lisa from sfa, and todd yesterday. ate a lot of tex mex and bbq. attended lots of parties. amy's talk went very well (yay amy woo!) so that was good. didn't sleep much but i had a blast. and then there was the shopping, movies, racquetball, laser tag, and playing pool and air hockey. had good times with old friends, enjoyed making some new ones, went to great talks, had tons of intellectually stimulating conversation. it was hard to leave, but it'll be nice to move forward with the new thesis (now thesis, as opposed to my then thesis). have some new collaborators, which is great. always good to have other people involved to bounce ideas off of. and my poster got good reviews too, which was fun since i hadn't really done any of that kind of work before. woo. the rodeo was so much fun. lonestar put on a hell of a show. got some good pictures all week, which i'll get up eventually.
kepler is very happy i'm back. he's been purring nonstop since i got home and following me wherever i go. he's sleeping curled up hugging my leg right now. so cute. also, wtf - it's cold and wet in tempe? weird. it was 80 degrees and mainly dry in houston.
scott is back from iraq and we got to talk for an hour and a half tonight. was really nice. we hadn't talked for a really long time. haven't seen each other in coming up on five years. think we're going to try and get together and play racquetball in austin in july.
time for bed. back to school tomorrow. woo geochem.
