oscars 1 of...

taking a break from proposal-ing to watch (some of) the oscars. john stewart is great tonight. his opening monologue mocked the writers' strike ("there has been a bitter fight in hollywood between the studios and the writers, but the fight is over. and now, welcome to the make-up sex!") and the war in iraq ("movies about iraq haven't done well, but if we stay the course and keep these movies in theaters, we can turn this thing around!"). but, my favorite thing so far: "normally, when you see a black or woman president, there is an asteroid heading for the statue of liberty." hehe. i love a reference to a disaster flick (or two!).
