i just finished talking to someone i knew in undergrad at sfa and a friend of mine, dirk, died this morning from cancer in his liver and abdomen, which spread to his kidneys and lymph nodes. dirk was 24 years old. he was in band with me and was the sweetest, kindest person. he was a very talented percussionist and was just getting started with his career as a band director. his brother, grant, was in the fire dept with me. it's so sad that someone who had so much going for him had to die so young. at least he is no longer in pain. goodbye dirk. rest in peace.
